Police Lawsuits cough up 170k to citizens in 2024

In 2024, Law Enforcement was sued twenty times, costing taxpayers around $170,000 to a number of plaintiffs.

Law Enforcement settled seven times with plaintiffs, and cases were awarded to the plaintiffs three times. Seven cases were dismissed and three cases are on-going.

The largest payout in 2024 was by the The Blaine County Sheriff’s Office, who settled $70,000 for causing physical, emotional and punitive damages.

The second largest payout in 2024 was by the State, representing a number of law enforcement agencies. Paying $60,000 in total to four plaintiffs ($15,000 each)

There were five settlements with unknown awards settled behind closed doors.

In total, this 2024 saw a 59% lawsuit success rate against Law Enforcement, the highest since 2022.

Since 2021, there have been 87 lawsuits, awarding a total of $1,058,220 to citizens.

The largest award remains $640,000 in 2023-CV-050. Awarded by a deputy from the Blaine County Sheriff’s Office for committing Aggravated Attempted Second Degree Murder, Punitive Damages, Pain and Suffering and Nominal Damages.

    Not sure what you mean by “taxpayers”, but only taxes I’ve seen people pay for is if they’re a homeowner.

    Yall missed one of the cases. Just saying. The one where the cop ran over a public ride and injured 3 people causing one person to lose half their liver.

    The media should take a closer look at prosecutors like Garry Shoeman and his goonies, who shield officers from lawsuits, especially those that never make it to the docket. They thrive on intimidating people into backing down from holding law enforcement accountable. It’s time to question how the DOJ allows this to continue.
