The representative debates for the special election happened on July 11, with five out of the six candidates attending. Overall the debates ran smoothly as each candidate outlined their platform and responded to the questions asked by debate moderator and Shout News journalist, Becks Lawson.
If you haven’t seen the debate, you can find it here, thanks to our colleagues at Weazel News.
After the debate had ended, some really critical and well thought commentary and discussion ensured on ‘Y’ with a number of candidates and citizens talking about the candidates on the platform.
Public Commentary
There is a selection of commentary or concerns from during or after the debates.

My opinion on the debate so far is that the government in this state feels very clique oriented. Also they sat the right things but make an excuse as to why they won’t be able to achieve the things that the citizens want to see changed.

If you can come up with a platform that is anything more than just “Listen to the people” you’re already miles ahead of the average candidate, based on the last election.

I love deflection from a candidate stating that the reason that he has not spoken to departments because they haven’t reached out to him, Always pointing the finger, rather then take the blame

@AmericanHero
It does seem like when some of these candidates talk about their own actions and deeds it seems as though they are talking from an ivory tower and not that of someone who is willing to shoulder the weight of the job. These are HUGE red flags.

Smith and Hill are controlling this very well. Countering opponent points before they can even be brought up. I can see why the others are hesitant to speak.
Bill Smith & Petchenko
The James Hill & Bill Smith joint ticket has proposed a minimum service level requirement for the Department of Commerce and Labor and the San Andreas Flight Administration. This lead to a discussion during the debate, but also a response online from SAFA Chief Vladimir Petchenko, who objected to the idea and suggested it was unnecessary.

Our plans have been clear from day 1 of this campaign, we hope after tonight you’ve had a chance to hear in more detail how we hope to achieve these three pledges.
Vladimir Petchenko

@GLHAD
SAFA does not, and will not, support minimum service levels for our staff. Full Stop.

@BSmith
I hope you’ll reconsider once you see the final draft. It’s all about transparency. In SAFAs case, a candidate for a pilots license can expect their background check and test flight conducted within x amount of days.weeks clearly there will be flex.

@BSmith
Along side that, joined up working between pilots/applicants, SAFA and the State to help eliviate the problems, such as a lack of EU minded check pilots. It’s about working together in the public relm, rather then the government board room.

You have provided no information beyond what’s on your campaign poster. That information is how people will be voting.

@BSmith
That’s a fair point. The pledges on Yeet are designed for social media. I hoped the more indepth descusion at the debate may have made things clearer. Tomorrow, I shall get a full draft of my plans on my website for all and text you the link!

@GLHAD and for a public statment following my remarks at the debate. I’d like to publicly again reiterate my love and admiration for SAFA, Vladimir, Claire and the team. This has never been about carrot and stick, merely setting expectations.

As you yourself, your running mate, and every other candidate at the debate stated when asked, that timeframe should be left up to the department in question. But for clarification, we average 13 days for a license, 15 days shorter than your 4 weeks.
