The Legislature is back in action with all five seats filled by representatives.
Yuri Devlin was elected Speaker of the Legislature, and Maxine Finch returns to being the Secretary. Jack Burton remains the Treasurer. The elections took place on the July 18, only days after the special election results were certified.
Another representative nominated themselves to become Speaker, however, the public notes released by Secretary Finch specify that they are not releasing the name of the other candidate. Historically this has not been the case.
The first meeting of this updated congress discussed a citizens proposal to remove Chief Justice term limits, a revitalisation project for Vespucci Beach, amendments to the criminal code and to the legal system. They also discussed a number of topics relating to Police transparency and the statute of limitations for warrants.
There was reportedly some talk about processes surrounding the impeachment of a Governor; however, no firm action was decided upon.
Discussions were then held about what would happen if she were found guilty or not guilty. Questions about the impeachment process and concerns about the constitution were raised and addressed. Representative Maxine mentioned preparing a press release for the Legislature regarding the trial, regardless of the outcome.
