Nominating Stevens: President Who?

Harry Kennedy Avatar

In a move which only 30% of San Andreas citizens supported, the United States President directly intervened in state-affairs by overruling the legislatures vote on the nomination of Sheriff Chris Stevens. This federal intervention, so close to an election, has run alarm bells for the citizens who believe their government is no longer in control.

Shout News can now reveal what really happened behind the scenes leading up to the appointment of Chris Stevens and why the nomination ultimately failed, until the presidential intervention.

Emails and Emails

The events that lead to the intervention started well beyond the initial nomination. In February, Shout News received emails between now-Sheriff Chris Stevens and Legislature Speaker Joanna Poole. The emails were supplied by an anonymous source, and confirmed to be legitimate by Shout.

These emails, according to the two parties involved, covered a main focus about Internal Affairs and officer misconduct investigations. Starting in late February, communications began asking about the scope of Internal Affairs and a suggestion made by Representative Poole on how Internal Affairs can be improved.

On March 10th a Legislative meeting occurred, where representatives spoke to the press and public. In that meeting Joanna brought up a statement that was made in the emails above. Based on Stevens reply, this was received as an misrepresentation and as a result stopped any communication with representatives.

The fact that this has now gotten out and been used to paint us negatively is a HUGE breach of trust. Because of this we will no longer be sharing any information about our Internal Affairs policies with you or any members of the cabinet or legislative branch.

Shout News spoke to Stevens about this matter.

After this information was made public, I spoke with all of High Command including the past Sheriff Liam Cavanagh about what happened and posted my response which was along the lines of denouncing the misrepresentation of information that was handed over in good faith. They all agreed that this is an appropriate and respectful response. I also said that due to a good faith effort happening and being weaponized against us we refuse to- in the future- release any internal information to the parties involved.

In talking with Representative Poole, she states that prior conversations with Sheriff Stevens were the reason for voting against the nomination. The Governor’s office stated they were not apart of any conversations between Stevens and the Legislators. Shout News reached out to the other representatives. However, they didn’t respond before time of publication.

The Nomination

On the 16th of March, the Legislature announced the results of an electronic vote on the Nomination failing 1-3 with only Representative Lucas Evans voting in favor of the nomination. Initially this move was unexpected, however with the context above we can now understand the thinking behind the vote.

The emails occurred before the nomination was announced, with the Governor saying when speaking to Shout News. “I briefly mentioned it to Speaker Joanna Poole prior to interviewing Stevens.”

After the Presidential Intervention, Stevens said on Y that ‘not a single one reached out to me.’ However based on the emails it seems that the representatives thought they didn’t need to simply because their impression of the Sheriff was already tarnished with Stevens telling us.

As I’ve been told from someone who was close with the state reps and was not included in the email that the email response was the reason they said no, I choose to believe this as how else would they know about the email response as it has not been spoken about publicly up to that point.

So, a tarnished reputation from emails with Joanna is effectively the single reason why the nomination failed. But how did the United States President become involved?

Intervention Presidential

Archibald Reeves is the current President of the United States. We attempted to reach out with questions but were unsuccessful in our attempts.

The electronic vote occurred before 10:48pm, on the 16th of March, with the Presidential Executive Order being issued at 10:50pm. This quickness indicates that there was foreknowledge by the President to what the outcome of the vote would be.

Most parties involved denied involving the President, or knowing who involved the President in the first place. However, Sheriff Stevens declined to comment on the questions we asked.

Governor Damien Key told Shout News:

I can’t speak on behalf of the legislature. However, The president’s response was too quick for anyone to have reasonably had a discussion about other options and I was not in front of Speaker Joanna Poole when the vote was made.

Damien Key, Governor of San Andreas

Both Representative Poole and the Governor’s Officer said were completely unaware and had no warning that the Presidential Intervention was coming.

So with the absence of a explained reason, we can infer from the Presidents social media commentary.

While this is no satisfying conclusion, it helps to know that at least behind the scenes there was some communication, and that there was a reason for the nomination failing. While it remains unclear regarding why President Reeves intervened on the nomination, it should alarm San Andrean citizens that the will of the state legislature can be completely overwritten with the signing of a paper.

This is just the latest federal involved matter which has caused controversy. The US Marshals have been increasingly more active inside the state, with raids being conducted on their behalf.

This is no longer a Democracy. “President” Archibald Reeves has sown chaos and further distrust into the government as a whole, leaving a lingering feeling of uselessness behind with our legislators. There is no point in an attempt to self-govern. In my eyes, a functional government no longer exists.

Will the federal interventions change the course of the upcoming election around the 12th of May 2024? Stay with Shout News to learn the latest.
