Representative Artemis Blackthorne’s resignation opens a vacancy in the legislature, and it’s time to see who will end up taking her sea. Speaker of the Legislature Joanna Poole introduced H.R. 321 – A Resolution to Call a Special Election, which passed with a 4-0 vote. Special Elections are triggered when a state representative dies, retires, or is removed in office when there is more than two months remaining in the regular term.
We’re on a breakneck schedule for the Special Election, and our new representative will be decided on March 18th. Here is the schedule for the upcoming election:
- Registration: March 7th – 10th
- Campaign Period: March 10th – 15th
- Voting: March 15th – 18th
- Announcement and Swearing-In: March 18th – 19th
It remains to be seen how many people register for the race after the Ninth Congress was sworn in without an election due to only five candidates signing up for the position. Shout News will cover the election as it happens, including coverage on candidates, their agendas, and what they hope to achieve while in office.
