Public Outrage at Police over SOP Bombshell

Rockford Hills, Los Santos — Police are facing a fire-storm of controversy after a bombshell was shared at Sundays town hall meeting.

Los Santos Police Chief Julie Lee has stated that its not a requirement for police to identify themselves, even if they are involved in an accident injuring others. She says that officers are expected to provide their name and badge number, however it isn’t policy, and has no type of enforcement.

Its not in the SOP’s, however we require them to give it if asked. We would like for them to do so, its not in the SOP’s

Julie Lee, LSPD Chief

Attorney Matt Murdank has challenged the legislature to create and pass a law which requires police to identify themselves sufficiently when requested.

The statement from the Chief of Police has sparked outrage on social media with users taking to various platforms to question this policy.

“put in an IA if an officer hits you” and now “Officers are not required to give their name or badge number” that is the most counterproductive bullshit I have ever heard

@Apothecary

If a member of the public is injurjed by a PD officer, and an IA is launched, does the member of the public get updates on this also? And if not, why? They were involved in the incident! Surely they deserve updates also?

@FJohnson

If thats the case why would anyone give the police any form of ID that seems backwards af

@Tooski

If there is no SOP saying they have to. They really need to put that in their SOP. Or in the law over all. The people should have the right to know the name of the officer who hit them. Just my input.

@AlexandraSto95

LSPD have confirmed after the meeting that they are looking into adding a clause in the Standard Operating Procedures to include police identification.

An anonymous caller into the news office said that Police are required by law to identify if they are involved in a car accident. Another caller has said that the US Marshals or FIB should charge officers with Hit and Run if they fail to stop if involved in a car accident.

    The Chief of Police must be an idiot to not realize that it’s a serious issue to leave the scene of an accident without providing information. If the Chief of Police is really going to sit at a public meeting and suggest that cops don’t need to identify themselves when they collide with a citizens vehicle then she needs to be deposed and someone with more than 2 brain cells should be put in her place.
