Tensions continue to escalate at the southern border as the Los Desertores Cartel continues to push into U.S. states, escalating their criminal activities and intensifying their grip on the drug and weapon industries. The Los Desertores Cartel emerged victorious from violent turf wars with other Mexican cartels, and is believed to be composed of former federal police and special forces. United States officials are currently investigating the Cartel’s possible encroachment into states like Texas, Nevada, New Mexico, and San Andreas.
Local authorities and eyewitnesses have reported a surge in Cartel presence among key regions, with members of the Los Desertores Cartel using intimidation, bribery, and extortion to destabilize local communities. Reports suggest that Los Desertores Cartel members are heavily involved in drug trafficking, setting up checkpoints to control who — and what — crosses into their territories.
“We’ve seen illicit markets and trade routes set up in peaceful, quiet communities,” said Sheriff Oscar Ramirez, an officer with the Nevada state police. “It’s obviously alarming, and we encourage citizens to stay alert and keep abreast of local red flags.”
“This is the sort of threat that could occur anywhere,” added Ramirez. “No one is truly immune.”
Government officials have been reluctant to comment on this alarming development, with many citing concerns for their personal safety. Efforts to combat the Los Desertores Cartel have been met with mixed results, with both Mexican and American authorities struggling to contain the operations. It currently seems as though the Los Desertores Cartel may look to shift to more vulnerable territories after running into resistance from joint task force authorities.
Despite some victories, the Cartel’s resilience and financial power continue to pose significant challenges. There’s no silver bullet solution for this level of sophisticated organized crime, but with civilians under threat, it’s clear that the Los Desertores Cartel should be a national priority.
