The former San Andreas State Police station in La Mesa has been destroyed in a targeted explosion.
On Tuesday, police filed charges against Tom Porter for the use of explosives, kidnapping, unlawful possession of firearms, attempted second degree murder, and other charges. Tom Porter has plead not guilty to the charges and was denied bail.
According to a police statement issued shortly after the explosion, they allege that Tom Porter was threatening a civilian and had planted explosives on the La Mesa premises. Mr Porter allegedly attempted to flee the scene and was shot after firing at police officers.
The hostage allegedly taken was safely rescued.
According to the police they attempted to disarm the explosives, however they were unsuccessful. In order to safely dispose the explosives, the police state they performed a controlled burn which ignited the device which set fire to the La Mesa complex.
The matter now remains before the courts.
