Representative Lucas Evans has submitted H.R. 320 – The Checkpoint Act of 2024, proposed by the San Andreas State Police. This bill is designed to allow law enforcement to create random checkpoints across the state of San Andreas. These checkpoints would apply to all vehicles except for emergency services such as fire or medical.
H.R. 320 outlines that every checkpoint must be announced via the statewide public alert system. Once a citizen approaches the checkpoint, law enforcement can check drivers for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, ensuring they have valid licensing, and checking for fugitives from the law. Officers may conduct breathalyser tests, assuming that the driver either consents, or the officer has probable cause to suspect the driver is under the influence of alcohol. Drivers are a checkpoint are legally considered to be detained. Drivers who fail to stop at a checkpoint may be charged with evading arrest.
H.R. 320 will be live for public feedback for approximately a week before it is eligible to be voted upon by the legislature.
