As winter begins to fade and San Andreas looks to spring, a new dance single is blowing up the charts from an unlikely source. Larry Tate, along with artist V, has released Oatmeal Grandma, and the bop is quickly climbing the pop charts. It’s the kind of song that is a simple, guilty pleasure — the sort of tune that demands you hit the dance floor and start grooving. The lyrics are also a light-hearted diversion from heavier and more somber songs that focus on self-reflection and emotional turmoil.
Tate shared the motivation for the song in conversation with CLOUT. “I was sitting here one day in my clothing store — Shmuck Apparel, shoutout, best clothing brand in the state — and I was like, hey, V, I want to make a song,” he says. “I’m not an artist, but I wanted to make a song. Give me a couple of words I can work with. The first words that came out of V’s mouth was “oatmeal grandma” and “big bowl bitch.” That started the entire thing, and soon I was looking up oatmeal recipes and everything.”
Oatmeal Grandma is available on all streaming platforms. There is currently no news on upcoming performances, but CLOUT will be sure to update in the case that an announcement is made.
