State Representative Artemis Blackthorne is stepping down from the 9th Congress. This is her second resignation this term; Blackthorne originally stepped down from her position as Secretary of the Legislature. The former Representative shared a statement with press, which reads:

Following mental health concerns, I have made the difficult decision to resign the Office of State Representative. The Governor and Legislature have been notified of this decision – Due to the timing of this decision, a Special Election will be held to fill my vacant seat. My resignation shall take effect at 12pm EST on February 29th, 2024.

Blackthorne submitted three bills: H.R. 308 -The Legislative Civil Sanctions Act, H.R. 309 – The Legislative Core Rules, and H.R. 310 – The Authorized Informant Act. All bills were submitted her first day in office, and two were voted down. The Authorized Informant Act is her only piece of legislation that passed.

Blackthorne was not elected by the public; she was one of five individuals who registered for the State Representative election, and was automatically assigned the position. Her resignation opens a vacancy in the legislature, which will require a Special Election. The federal government will share details on that election in the coming days, which Shout News will share upon publication.
