Sandy Shores, San Andreas<\/em><\/strong> – It\u2019s a hell of a thing, retiring a man. You take away everything he\u2019s ever had and ever would have\u2026 as sheriff. Something, something\u2026 Clint Eastwood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But you can’t take away the years of devotion and valor a sheriff gains in service of protecting the people of San Andreas. Therefore, it is with great sorrow in our hearts that Shout News announces that Liam Cavanagh has stepped down as the Blaine County Sheriff to become a United States Marshal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reportedly, as of last Sunday, Liam Cavanagh met with members of the Executive Branch to announce his resignation as the head of the Blaine County Sheriff\u2019s Office (BSCO). In the absence of a sheriff, Undersheriff Chris Stevens will be appointed as the acting sheriff until a nomination for sheriff can be made. Governor Damien Key has since nominated Chris Stevens as the Blaine County Sheriff<\/a>, and the public is expected to see him appointed in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Liam Cavanagh was initially nominated for Sheriff of the Blaine County Sheriff’s Office on May 14, 2023. He officially assumed the position four days later, on May 18th, 2023. Since being sworn in, many have said that Liam Cavanagh has been a leader inside and outside of his county, kicking ass and taking names.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On hearing about his retirement, Shout News reached out to Cavanagh for a comment. He shared this statement:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYep, I\u2019m stepping down as Sheriff of BSCO,\u201d Liam verified. \u201cI\u2019ve been very lucky\u2014very lucky to have been the sheriff, and I’m glad that the deputies and the people who care have put their trust in me to run this place and serve them\u2026 I\u2019ll be completely honest\u2014when I first got the job, I was so happy to have it, and I felt like I was doing great. And then, y\u2019know, sometimes the pressure can weigh you down a little bit, and I\u2019ve caught myself not being on duty as much as I used to. I held myself, and I held others, to a very high standard\u2014 that if you\u2019re going to run the department, you need to be here. The people need to see you, your coworkers need to see you, your employees need to see you. And if you\u2019re not living by that standard, you shouldn\u2019t be in the position that was held. I saw myself getting there\u2026 I figured Stevens wants it, I want Stevens to have it, and people who work here don\u2019t deserve a sheriff who is going to desert them. So, instead of taking a break, I decided it would be right for me to step down.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Acting Sheriff Chris Stevens shared a similar sentiment with his longtime friend and mentor on his retirement and his recent nomination. Speaking to Shout News, he expressed \u201c…I think it is a great honor and a great responsibility that I hope to fulfill to the best of my ability. Cavanagh was a great friend of mine for the damn near three years we worked together, and I am so proud of what he did with the Sheriff’s Office and how far it has come.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When asked on any final wishes he\u2019d like to share with Liam in his future endeavors, He added: \u201cI want to let Liam know that over the last damn near three years how lucky I have been to have him to work with. He has been an amazing friend and also a great coworker. We both shared great times and frustrations together, and I wish him all the best with the USMS- I am sure he will be a great addition to their team and they are VERY lucky to have him. Liam, just know you will always have a place at BCSO’s table — thank you for everything.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
