He would go on to serve in a variety of roles, most recently as a U.S. Marshal, before taking a leave of absence to run for governor of San Andreas. Cavanagh was a beloved coworker to all of us and an even better friend to those who had the joy of calling him a friend. Cavanagh had a great aura about him that resonated with those around him. Not many people can say as the sheriff they’d always put their deputies before themselves and all else- but Cavanagh is surely one of them. He was known to many throughout the ranks for his dedication to the department and the attitude that the department came first. These ideas kept me and Cavanagh on an honest agenda and set a clear mindset for us when we both inherited the Sheriff’s Office. The Blaine County Sheriff’s Office did not know how blessed we were when we had him, but we will surely know the absence he will leave behind with his passing. Liam had left an everlasting and indelible mark and impression on all of us and the department as a whole.

Liam Cavanagh was originally hired as a San Andreas State Trooper on Feb. 20th, 2021. The Troopers is where I came to meet Cavanagh as I was hired a month after him into the same department. When the original split happened Liam had decided to go to LSPD to work under the guidance and employment of Chief Mac Moody. Cavanagh when originally going to LSPD was seen by his coworkers as a friendly face and a funny guy to laugh with in the “Bull Pen” as we called it. A few things he was known for back then were releasing birds into MRPD and then releasing a bunch of snakes to try to exterminate the bird infestation, as well as denying crypto and instead investing all of his money into gold bars to fight inflation. These times were to many just another antic in the workplace, but for many of us these are the impressions that Liam made on us. We had no idea that these were going to be times that we would come to later reflect on and cherish in his memory.

Though Liam Cavanagh has passed away- I am confident that no matter how much time passes, Cavanagh will still have a legacy with the Sheriff’s Office. Myself and the department as a whole are hoping to honor him in ways that he would appreciate moving forward. He will be greatly missed by me and all the law enforcement employees and government officials that he touched the lives of and the citizens he left an everlasting impression on.

Chris Stevens
Sheriff
Blaine County Sheriff’s Office
C.Stevens@BCSO.Gov

Former Blaine County Sheriff, U.S. Marshal, and Governor candidate Liam Cavanagh has passed away, according to a press release issued by the BCSO.
